A slender basilica with a tall tower dominates the architecture of Limanowa. This is the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sorrow.
The church was erected on the site of the older church in the years 1910–18. The stone church interior features a Gothic Pietŕ dating from the 14th century and worshipped here since 1753. Karol Wojtyła crowned the Pietŕ twice: as Archbishop of Krakow in 1966 and as Pope in 1983 on Krakow’s Błonia. The papal procession stopped for a moment in front of the basilica on the way from Krakow to Stary Sącz in 1999.
