Everything started with Józef Paszkiewicz, a shoemaker from Stary Sącz and his collection. The historical memorabilia collected by this enthusiast became the museum's origin, which today brings closer the past, traditions and culture of the city, and shows the famous people associated with it.

It was 1956 when Paszkiewicz's collection was exhibited in two rooms of the historic "Dom na Dołkach". However, the collection grew, more and more exhibition rooms were added, and since 1999 the museum has also presented memorabilia related to the visit of Pope John Paul II. In 2004, the Regional Museum in Stary Sącz arranged (on the first floor of the tenement house) a permanent exhibition of memorabilia of Father-philosopher Józef Tischner. It consists of, among others, hundreds of photographs, books with the professor's annotations on the margins, personal memorabilia, manuscripts and a typewriter. The exhibition devoted to Ada Sari (real name Jadwiga Szayer), a famous singer connected with Stary Sącz, also deserves special attention. Among the private belongings of the artist, who performed on the world's biggest stages, you can see a mirror, gloves, photographs and her last testament.
