Remuh Synagogue is founded by the merchant Israel Isserles ben Joseph for his son Moses, Rabbi and scholar.
The name derives from the Hebrew acronym of Rabbi’s name and dignity. Despite reconstructions, the building maintained the elements of original 16th-century furnishings: Torah ark carved in stone and a stone box for alms. Next to the synagogue, there is the cemetery with a complex of two types of valuable tombstones from the 16th-18th century – tomb macebas and free-standing macebas. The tombs of the Remuh Rabbi and kabbalist Nathan Spira are the destinations of pilgrimages of devout Jews from all over the world.
